St John's College Chapel Choir - Scholarships
St John’s offers a number of generously funded organ and choral scholarships. Please contact the College if you are interested in applying for one of these posts. Awards are usually made for one academic year and are renewable by mutual agreement.
Wallis Organ Scholarship
This is the College’s senior organ scholarship and the post holder is expected to accompany the majority of choral services and choir rehearsals. In addition, they are required to accompany one sung service of Morning Prayer each week during term time. The scholarship currently attracts an honorarium of £370, paid in termly instalments, as well as support towards the cost of tuition with an approved teacher.
Junior Organ Scholarship
This post is designed for a student organist to gain experience in the essential skills of congregational and choral accompaniment. The workload is smaller than that of the Wallis Organ Scholar, to allow more preparation time and will be planned in accordance with the scholar’s experience and a clear path for development. The post attracts an honorarium of £270, paid in termly installments, as well as support towards the costs of organ lessons.
Choral Scholarships
The college offers 16 choral scholarships with a flexible balance between the four voice parts. Importance is attached to vocal quality, musicianship and good sight-reading skills, as well as a willingness to be challenged by different types of music. The scholarships attract an honorarium of £270 each, paid in termly installments.
