Here is a brief abstract for my research work:
PhD Theology: A Biblical Theology of Early Christian Antiquity I am a first year doctoral candidate reading Theology. My research is primarily in the area of biblical studies and interpretation, especially of the Old Testament. I hope to develop a new approach to biblical theology as a theological interpretation of Scripture which better understands and appreciates the Old Testament as Christian Scripture. The Old Testament which Jesus and the authors of the New Testament knew and understood had been read, translated, interpreted and re-interpreted for hundreds of years by the first century. My research aims to reconstruct a picture of Old Testament theology as Early Christianity was interacting with it and chart the development of meaning and significance to the first century. This approach requires an understanding of the Old Testament as Jewish Scripture, into which Christians are brought by Christ, to be part of the diachronic community of God. This thesis challenges Christians to read the Old Testament as a story of which they have been made members, and has enormous opportunity to enhance Jewish-Christian dialogue in the task of theologically interpreting Scripture.
