Laying a foundation of a daily pattern of public worship and private prayer is essential preparation for ordained ministry.

The College Chapel is the ancient parish church of St. Mary-the-Less, across the road from the main college building. When not in use for services, the Chapel is available for prayer. An extensive re-ordering and refurbishment of the chapel took place in the early part of 2002 and the chapel was re-opened by the Bishop of Durham in June of that year.
In addition there is a College quiet room available for individual or group use. The College grounds and riverbanks offer a good resource for space and quiet in good weather and the Cathedral provides a range of services and space for prayer.
Services in the Chapel are mainly led by students with help, support and feedback from tutors. We use a very wide variety of musical styles and liturgical resources. A weekly session, Preparation for Worship, resources our own worshipping life and introduces new material for use in churches now and in the future.
All ordinands are encouraged to have a spiritual director outside the college during training. There is a weekly College Bible Reading open to everyone. Regular quiet days are held throughout the year and there is an annual College Retreat. Courses on Spirituality provide a comprehensive introduction to the Christian tradition of prayer.
