You will find details here of our courses for ordinands, clergy and lay people who are looking to be equipped for Christian ministry in contemporary society.
The College Chapel, St Mary-the-Less
... the Anglican Theological College in the North East of England - the place where the Bible was first translated into English. It's the land of the Celtic saints, of Norman cathedrals, and don't forget the stunning countryside and beaches.
On the following pages you'll find information on all of our courses - both for ordained and lay ministry - but the best way to find out about all that we have to offer is to come and talk to us, to discuss what you want to gain from your training.
FRESH! In July 2010 we offered an introduction to Fresh Expressions of Church: what they are and how they thrive. The course was a resounding success! To find out more follow this link to the Fresh Expressions website.
The new Cranmer Hall website is currently under construction and as soon as it goes 'live' there'll be information available on the courses we can offer everyone interested in training for Pioneer Ministry. In the meantime, information on our pioneer courses is available via the Fresh Expressions website.
As a College we are committed to serving the needs of the whole church in worship and mission. These pages will give you some idea of what is on offer but they can only give a very partial impression of what is a rich, lively and joyful community of Christian people engaged in formation for ministry. We will gladly send you written details on request. However, the best way to discover the good things that are available in Cranmer Hall and in Durham is to come and visit.
I hope we may look forward to meeting you.
Please read the Cranmer Hall Brochure for more information on the college. The next step would be for you to visit us to find out more, the address below is your first contact point. You should either phone or email to make an appointment or fill in our application form and send it to the address below. Canon Anne Dyer appointed a Vice President of the Church Pastoral Aid Society
The Revd Canon Anne Dyer, Warden of Cranmer Hall, has been appointed a Vice-president of the Church Pastoral Aid Society. This is an honorary position through which Anne will be able to support the work of CPAS, as well as advising as appropriate on various developments related to ministry and mission.
Anne has had a long association with CPAS, attending a 'You and the Ministry' conference when thinking through her own sense of vocation, and later serving her Title in a parish where CPAS was the patron. Anne met her husband Roger when they were both serving on the leadership team of a CYFA camp, and together they led CYFA and Pathfinder groups in a number of churches.
'I am delighted to serve CPAS in this way', Anne says, 'and will look forward to ways in which I might promote the good work that CPAS does across the Northern Province of the Church of England. In addition, I hope that there might be a mutually fruitful relationship between Cranmer Hall and CPAS, particularly with regard to ministerial training relating to leadership and ordained ministry.'
The Principal of St John's College, of which Cranmer Hall is a part, Rev Dr David Wilkinson, comments, 'This appointment shows how much Anne is valued as a strategic thinker and theologian in the area of mission and ministry, but also the growing relationship of CPAS and Cranmer Hall.'
They were allowed out again! It turned out to be an incredibly moving experience. To find out what they did, and why they were there, follow the link to Cranmer News.

Professor John Drane, the External Examiner for the undergraduate programmes in Theology and Ministry recently reported:
"This is one of the most sophisticated professional degree schemes I have come across anywhere in the world. There can be no doubt that this programme is at the cutting-edge of its subject. The staff involved in teaching this programme are all doing a very good job, and show much evidence of creative teaching as well as competent understanding of their various disciplinary specialities."
Details of the MA in Theology and Ministry can be found by clicking here. Easlier this year we ran a module taught by Bishop Tom Wright. A video about this module can be found here.
