The JCR
Unlike most colleges, St Cuthbert's Society has one student common room to which all students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, are automatic members; the Junior Common Room (JCR).
What is the JCR?
The Junior Common Room (JCR) is the student body of St. Cuthbert's Society. The JCR President is responsible for the running of the JCR with the support of the JCR Executive, all of whom are elected by the students. It is a registered charity and a recognised JCR within the University. For more details about the relationship between the college and the JCR, please see the College Council page
We have over 1200 JCR members. Every member is welcome to participate in all of our activities. The JCR President is responsible for the running of the JCR with the support of the JCR Executive, all of whom are elected by the students. As a member of the JCRm you can run for election to any position on the JCR Exec. This is a great opportunity to take on an important leadership role and develop impressive skills.
The JCR supports a wide variety of sports teams and societies, which include arts, music and drama. Every tema and society is eligible to receive funding, which is allocated as per our financial guidelines and approved at a JCR general meeting. The JCR also maintains our gyms, computer rooms, laundrys, PA / disco equipment, amongst other things.
