Postgraduate Life
Every Durham University postgraduate student is a member of a college - a supportive, diverse community of students and staff from across the University.
Whether you live in college, or 'out' in town or in your own home, you still benefit from the services and opportunities on offer in your college. If you would like to belong to a lively College and be part of the unique Durham collegiate student experience then St Cuthbert's may be the place for you. We are a scholarly community with a tradition of having a social conscience and a focus upon inclusion. As a scholarly community we anticipate that prospective students who choose St Cuthbert's intend working hard at their academic studies. We support and encourage your learning, both in and outside the classroom, and want and expect the best from and for our students.
All postgraduates become part of the Postgraduate Committee (which is broadly similar to a MCR) and also a member of the JCR; we have a long standing tradition of all our students being members of the same common room so we can share experiences, knowledge and skills. You also take part in the Research Forums; a series of talks organised by the Principal and the JCR Postgraduate Representative. Many of the talks are delivered by our own postgraduates who want to share their research and knowledge; this provides you with a great networking opportunity.
