Bar
Cuth’s is well known in Durham for having the best college bar and we are also the only collegiate body to have two bars. It’s always lively, especially in the evenings, and is possibly the cheapest place you will ever get a drink.
Cuths’ Bar on the Bailey and Brooks Bar at Parsons’ Field both offer a wide selection of snacks and beverages as well as the famous Cuth’s atmosphere.
We are very proud of our friendly and especially student-orientated atmosphere, where participation in all aspects of Society life is encouraged.

Charles Holmes Library
The library is entirely staffed and run by students and contains a large range of books which we are constantly expanding.
Cuth’s Library is named after a much loved former Resident Tutor who bequeathed a large number of books to Cuths on his death.

Junior Common Rooms
The JCR is also the name given to a physical room which is used as a communal space for JCR members, in Cuth’s we have two JCRs, one on the Bailey in House 12 and one at Parsons Field in Brooks House,
Both JCRs have pigeon holes for post, these are alphabetically ordered. There are two sets in each JCR, one is for new post, one for post a week or more old. None are for pigeons… so don’t try!
We have a full selection of daily newspapers delivered to the JCR every morning to inspire political debate and scrutinize Beckham’s new haircuts along with sitting areas in which to read them. Please do not remove them until 7pm so everyone gets a chance to read them, and try not to make a mess with them.
The Brooks House JCR also doubles as a TV Room (see below) and Games Room with a pool table.

The JCR has TV rooms located both on the Bailey in House 8 and at Parsons Field in the Brooks House JCR. Green Machine
“The Green Machine” is the name given to the Cuth’s horde of DJ, Lighting and P.A. equipment. It gets used at most social events for a wide range of things; from hammering out “Angels” post formal to amping up the Céilidh band at the Norton Burns Night.
Over the last few years, the Green Machine has gone from strength to strength to the point where it is now coveted by other colleges. It’s often out and about, making events happen across Durham.
The Green Machine is managed byAlistair Barbar and there are two assistant positions available. If you want to help out with tech stuff at Cuth’s then come along to the first JCR meeting and get elected! The JCR pays you for the hours you work!
The Green Machine also needs a good catalogue of DJ’s. If you’re a DJ and fancy playing at social events then drop the Social Chair an e-mail at cuthberts.jcr-social@dur.ac.uk.
Casino
Cuth’s has a fully stocked casino, complete with roulette wheel. The casino is often hired out to other colleges and requires a team of crack croupiers to manage its operation. It’s an easy and fun way to get involved with the JCR, and get paid!
