Loads of pre-arrival info coming soon in your handbook, but here’s my advice for the next couple of weeks….
- Make sure you’ve filled in and sent off everything you’re supposed to, including for your department, for Cuths, and for the university.
- Get student insurance, e.g. Endsleigh do a good deal.
- Get a cheque book – you’ll need one!
- Get a student bank account.
- Pack! Have a think about what catering level you’ve got, and how much equipment you’ll need. Tescos in Durham do pots and pans, etc. really cheap, so it could be worthwhile not buying too much to bring, then waiting to see what you and your housemates could buy between you (assuming they’re not ogres).
- Go to the Cuths forum and have a chat with current and new students. If you’ve rung the Society and found out the name of your roommate, you may be able to contact them here!
- Get your costumes sorted! Essential is your Toga, and also highly recommended is a traffic light costume, a beach outfit, and a back to school uniform. We like dressing up in Cuths; start as you mean to go on!! If you’re not comfortable in a costume don’t worry though, and not having one is certainly not an excuse to not go to a party!
- Look out in the post for your Freshers Handbook, then read it! The really really really important bit is the flyer that comes with it. This is your ticket to 33% off the Freshers Week ents, and a free t shirt! All in all a saving of around £10. Are we good to you or what??! There’s also the opportunity here to buy your tickets for paintballing. This all needs sending back to us as soon as you get it to make sure you get first priority on tickets for the week’s awesome ents, and your free t shirt in your size.
