Postgraduates

Good day to you!

My name is Alexander Malt (but you may call me ‘Zack’ or simply ‘Alex’) and I’m the current postgraduate rep (2009-10). Postgrad rep is a relatively new position, having been established in 2008, and is designed to ensure the concerns/opinions of postgradute students are heard and acted on by the JCR exec.

St. Cuthbert’s Society is unique amongst Durham’s collegiate institutions in that it does not have an MCR. Instead postgraduate students are encouraged to join and throw themselves fully into the JCR. There are some great facilities available to JCR members – gyms, music rooms, colossal tellies, etc. - and brilliant formal events are put on throughout the year.

This year I shall be working to set up a series of formal events aimed at postgraduate students (though due to the Cuth’s nature, undergraduates – especially mature students – will be more than welcome to attend). Also, it’s worth bearing in mind that all JCR organised formals and balls have tickets set aside for postrads! So if you can’t make it down to ticket sales you can still go to an event if you email the social chair (cuthberts.social@durham.ac.uk).
