How much would you be prepared to pay for a Cuth's Yearbook?

  • Overview

St Cuthbert’s Society is the third oldest institution in the University. Our ethos is open and exciting, and our students are expected to play a major role in the running of the JCR.

Our rowers plus Steve RedgraveMembers play a major part in University affairs and clubs. The Society also supports a wide range of internal activities with notable strengths in sport and drama.
    Excellent Facilities:

St. Cuthbert’s is host to fantastic facilities.

South Bailey is home to social and academic facilities. This includes the bar and gym, academic facilities such as the library and IT suite, and the administration offices.

BarHouses here provide 110 bed spaces for first years, and is also where you will find living-in members of the Executive Committee – the President, Bar Steward, Librarian and Treasurer.

JCROur Parsons Field centre provides a licensed café, large JCR area, computer room, gym, music room and offices for our Student Support Services (consisting of the Senior Tutor and Asst Senior Tutor), who work at both sites throughout the week.
Fonteyn Court150 first years live at Parsons Field. We are the only body in Durham to offer a choice of let and board; you can either self-cater, have full board, or our 10-meal package (lunch and dinner on weekdays) – whatever suits you best.
Brooks House at the Parsons Field site is used for returning students (second or third years who live back in) but a handful of rooms are given to first year students. Cuths only received this new accomodation (allowing returning students to have bed space) in 2006 and since then a culture of living out in your second year with friends and returning with them to live in Brooks in your third year is becoming a rapid tradition.
It provides 190 en-suite rooms, in blocks of 6 around a self-catering kitchen. This is a brand-new building opening in October 2006.

The Vice-President and Welfare Officer also live at Parsons Field and are there for any help you need.
    Student Support:

We consider our student support system second-to-none in the University.

It consists of the Senior Tutor and Assistant Senior Tutor. Between the two of them they alternate working both the Bailey and Parsons field on a day to day basis.

They respond to a variety of student needs, including domestic, personal, health, financial and academic, on a drop-in basis.

The President and student Welfare Officer are resident and are likewise in and around the Society most of the time.

All first year students are allocated an individual Mentor who will support them as they begin their personal development planning process. We further maintain specialist tutors for Maths, Writing Skills, Sports and Arts.
