Durham is a beautiful city, but you really have to visit to get the full impact. The Castle and Cathedral form part of a world heritage site and the Cuths properties on South and North Bailey are located on the historic cobbled street that leads up to Palace Green. Our Parsons Field site looks over the riverbanks near our boat club. It’s also located next to the University Cricket Pitch and Durham’s Rugby Pitch.
Durham is situated south of Newcastle, in North East England. The River Wear flows north through the city, enclosing the centre on three sides to create Durham’s “peninsula”, upon the North and South Bailey run along the centre of. Upon the most central and prominent position high above the Wear, the cathedral dominates the skyline. The steep riverbanks are densely wooded, adding to the picturesque beauty of the city.
Durham has fantastic transport links, with a railway station which is part of the East Coast Main Line between Edinburgh and London. Rail services run by GNER, Virgin Trains, First Transpennine Express and Northern run through Durham Station. A trip to Newcastle costs around £6 return.
By road the A1 Motorway passes just to the east of the city. Durham also has an airport nearby (Durham Tees Valley Airport) which offers flights to many European destinations. Newcastle Airport is also quite close offering low-cost flights.
