How to find St Aidan's

We are no. 2 on the University map.

By road

Durham is 264 miles from London, 187 miles from Birmingham, 125 miles from Edinburgh and 67 miles from York.

From the South

Drive north on the A1(M) and exit at Junction 61. Take the A177 signposted for Bowburn. Follow the road for approximately three miles until you reach Stockton Road. Turn left at the traffic lights onto South Road, then right onto Elvet Hill Road. Take the first left turn and then the second right into the College grounds.

From the North

Drive south on the A1(M) and exit at Junction 62, A690 signposted for Durham and Consett. Turn left at the roundabout and follow the New Elvet road. Continue until you reach a fork in the road and take the road to the right onto Church Street. Drive straight ahead at the traffic lights at South Road and continue on Stockton Road for about half a mile. Turn right onto Elvet Hill Road; take the first left turn and then the second right into the College grounds.

By bus

There are several express coach services daily from most major cities. Durham is well served by both regional express services and the local bus network. From the city bus station - a short walk from the railway station - a bus service runs every 15 minutes past the Colleges on South Road.

By rail

14 trains per day travel from London and Edinburgh to Durham. The journey takes less than three hours from London, one and a half hours from Edinburgh and forty-five minutes from York.

By air

The nearest airports are Newcastle and Durham Tees Valley. Newcastle airport is linked to Durham by rail and Metro.

By sea

European scheduled ferry services travel to and from Newcastle on a regular basis.
