BBC World Service: The Forum

St. Aidan’s College Writing Fellow, Dr. Fadia Faqir, was a participant in the BBC World Service programme The Forum. The brief was intriguing:
Do you have a guilty secret that keeps you tossing and turning at night? Or do you sleep easy with a clear conscience? The Forum's subject this week is guilt: how much does it affect the behaviour of individuals, families and entire nations? Joining Bridget Kendall this week are Australian novelist and author of Schindler's List, Thomas Keneally, Turkish historian Taner Akcam and Jordanian writer Fadia Faqir.

Durham Book Festival

On Friday 26th October, as our contribution to this year’s Durham Book Festival, we hosted Dr. Amal Al-Malki in St. Aidan’s, to launch her book Arab Women in Arab News: Old Stereotypes and New Media.

An appreciative audience engaged with a range of issues arising from a beautifully focused and stimulating presentation. Following a lively discussion, Dr. Al-Malki signed copies of her book, before continuing the debate over dinner with a range of Durham academics, students and representatives from regional Arts and Media and her publisher, Macmillan.
