Freshers - Pre Arrival Information...

There's probably a heap of things going through your mind as you think of all the things you've got to do before you set off for John Snow College, Durham University (sounds good doesn't it!). So here are a few key things that we really reccomend you get sorted before you arrive in October.

Important College Pre-Arrival Information...

Please make sure to read all of the content on the College Information Pages, failure to do so will mean that you'll potentially miss important dates and information regarding your course, the college and Freshers' Week.

Things to consider...

University, College & Department Forms: You'll have no doubt been sent alot of forms that need completing before you arrive, these will include your accomodation contract, passport photographs for campus cards, your Fresher's Week Tickets (you can order online), any course related information - it's important to fill these in and post them back as soon as possible. If you're not sure where to post them get in touch with us and we can help.

Student Bank Account & Cheque Book: Hopefully you've have sorted out a bank account for your student loans to go into, but we'd really reccomend bringing a cheque book along as well. It'll be extremely useful in your first few weeks to pay various subscriptions, levys and course book orders. It's also useful to have a small amount of money with you when you arrive just in case there are any problems with your student loan.

Packing: This is a big concern for many people (especially our Fresher Reps who will be moving you in!) so please think carefully about what you might and probably won't need whilst at University. You're provided with toasters, kettles etc in your kitchen so you'll just need to bring crockery and cutlery as well as a pan or two; and in your bedroom all the furniture is there just bring bedding (duvet, pillows etc) and your computer, books, posters etc...and some clothes and fancy dress equipment! Toilet Rolls are always forgotten...

Other useful things...

Facebook: Fingers crossed you'll have a Facebook account...if not then get one! It's used so much at University for everything from JCR announcements, sports team information and it's ideal in Fresher's week when you're meeting people and trying to juggle the hundred or so names you'll hear in your first week at Uni - also make sure to join our Fresher's Facebook Group to talk with all of the other students who will be moving in with you come October (you can even work out who'll be in your flat too!)
