School of Government & International Affairs

Postgraduate Study

Within our school there is a substantial postgraduate community, with 100 students taking our Taught Master’s courses in 2012/2013 and approximately 130 students registered for Research Degrees most of whom are registered for PhDs. We have a thriving cosmopolitan student community. Currently there are students from over 50 different countries studying in the School.

Institute of Advanced Study

One of the core aims of the Institute of Advanced Study is to encourage Durham's postgraduate community to engage with the work sponsored by the IAS.  The Institute will provide postgraduates with a unique opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with some of the most distinguished scholars from across the world; our postgraduates may even, as a consequence, end up working with these scholars.  The IAS will give postgraduates access to a wide range of events, allowing them to examine for themselves the benefits and challenges of multi- and interdisciplinary research.
