DESCRIPTION:A lecture by Professor Vivien Lowndes, De Montfort University,
  Leicester.&nbsp; This lecture is part of the seminar series in Faith and 
 Globalisation.Vivien Lowndes is the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research) at De M
 ontfort University.&nbsp; She previously worked at the Insititute of Local
  Government Studies, University of Birmingham, and in the Department of Go
 vernment, University of Essex.&nbsp; She has also held research and policy
  posts in local government and the voluntary sector. Professor Lowndes&nbs
 p;has conducted major research projects on citizen participation, partners
 hip governance, local political leadership and central/local relations for
  bodies including DCLG, Home Office, ESRC, Joseph Rowntree Foundation, Aud
 it Commission and Council of Europe.&nbsp; She has undertaken recent work 
 on faith engagement in public policy and local governance, and is the co-e
 ditor of a new book Faith in the Public Realm (Policy Press, forthcoming).
  Professor Lowndes acted as Specialist Advisor to the House of Commons Pub
 lic Administration Committee for its inquiry into innovations in participa
 tion, and as an advisor to the Lyons Inquiry on Local Government.&nbsp; Sh
 e has also served on the management group of the Insititute of Community C
 ohesion, of which De Montfort University is a founding partner.
