SUMMARY:Generation adequacy and capacity credits
DESCRIPTION:Introduction by Prof Janusz Bialek. Due to the uncertainty in
its available output, the contribution of wind generation to securing dema
nd for electric power must be quantified differently from that of conventi
onal thermal generation. This talk will describe how this may be done thro
ugh the concept of 'capacity credit', defined here as the additional deman
d which the wind generation can support without increasing system risk. Me
thods for visualising the wind resource at time of peak demand, and the ef
fects of limited available wind data, will also be discussed.
