DESCRIPTION: Trends and Issues in International Higher Education The field
  of international higher education has changed dramatically in recent year
 s given the impact of globalization, the economy and technology. No longer
  is international higher education solely about the mobility of students. 
 What are the trends in this field and what are the issues to consider in t
 he future? Drawing on her recently completed work on The Sage Handbook of 
 International Higher Education (Sage, 2012), Dr. Darla Deardorff of Duke U
 niversity in Durham North Carolina, USA, will explore current trends and i
 ssues in international higher education in the US and beyond.  Darla K. De
 ardorff is currently executive director of the Association of Internationa
 l Education Administrators, a national professional organization based at 
 Duke University, where she is a Research Scholar in Education. &nbsp;In ad
 dition, she is visiting professor at Leeds-Metropolitan University in the 
 United Kingdom and is on faculty of the prestigious Summer Institute of In
 tercultural Communication in Portland, Oregon. &nbsp;She receives numerous
  invitations from around the world to speak and consult on her research on
  intercultural competence and assessment, as well as on global leadership 
 and internationalization issues (including in Europe, Latin America, Austr
 alia and Asia) and is a noted expert on these topics. &nbsp;Dr. Deardorff 
 has published widely on topics in international education and intercultura
 l learning/assessment and is editor of The SAGE Handbook of Intercultural 
 Competence (Sage, 2009) as well as co-editor of The SAGE Handbook of Inter
 national Education (Sage, forthcoming), Building Cultural Competence (Styl
 us, forthcoming) and author of Beneath the Tip of the Iceberg: Improving E
 nglish and Understanding US American Cultural Patterns (University of Mich
 igan Press, 2011). &nbsp;Dr. Deardorff holds a master's and doctorate from
  North Carolina State University where she focused on international educat
