 Analyzing Environmental Health Justice and Vulnerability: Current Research
  and Future Directions in New York City and Glasgow Professor Maantay will
  present research, undertaken as part of the Fulbright-Glasgow Urban Lab c
 ollaboration, which entails a case study comparison of two cities (NYC and
  Glasgow) regarding environmental health justice and hazards in the built 
 environment.&nbsp; Highlights of current and recent environmental health j
 ustice research in NYC will be discussed, including air pollution and asth
 ma, flood hazard vulnerability, and access to environmental benefits such 
 as parks, active recreation spaces, walkable neighborhoods, and healthy fo
 od options.&nbsp; This previous work in NYC has informed the on-going rese
 arch of Glasgow&rsquo;s physical environment, which is focusing particular
 ly on the concentration and preponderance of contaminated brownfield sites
 , and their possible links to adverse health outcomes, health inequities, 
 and deprivation.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;Biosketch:Juliana Maantay was born in N
 ew York City and has had a life-long interest in the urban environment.&nb
 sp; Dr. Maantay is Professor of Urban and Environmental Geography at City 
 University of New York and Director of the Geographical Information Scienc
 e (GISc) Programme there.&nbsp; Her research interests include using GISc 
 for spatial analyses of environmental health and justice issues; the impac
 ts of land use and the built environment on health; urban hazards and risk
  assessment; and community-based participatory research.&nbsp; Dr. Maantay
  earned a BSc from Cornell University, a Master of Urban Planning (MUP) fr
 om New York University, an MA in Geography/GISc from Hunter College/ CUNY,
  and an MPhil and PhD in Urban Environmental Geography from Rutgers Univer
 sity.&nbsp; As the Fulbright-Glasgow Urban Lab Distinguished Chair, Prof M
 aantay is exploring issues of urban planning, policy, environmental health
  justice and the built environment, using New York City and Glasgow as cas
