Durham University Schools' Science Festival

The annual Durham University Schools' Science Festival aims to stimulate interest and encourage wider participation in science, and to support the next generation of scientists from the local area. School students from across the region who participate in the Durham University Schools' Science Festival follow a demanding programme of engineering projects including design, building and testing, and a range of hands-on science and technology activities.

The Durham University Schools' Science Festival 2013 will be held from Tuesday 26th March to Thursday 28th March at the School of Biological & Biomedical Sciences, Durham University.  The Festival is designed for the target audience of Year 9 and Year 10 students.  We hope to offer activities and demonstrations covering:

Biology

Chemistry

Earth Sciences

Engineering

Mathematics

Physics

Psychology

"Exciting, exhilarating, empowering - these are the qualities that for me describe the day at Durham University. The first two amongst the three are to be expected but I felt as if the latter ought to be explained in greater detail.

Empowering is a term used to describe an increase in confidence or can be described as a stimuli; the day at Durham University was definitely both of these things from a careers standpoint as it opened my eyes upon the ever expansive world of science."

Year 9 pupil who attended the 2012 festival.
