Biography

After completing her A-Levels, Jackie joined the Pathology Department at the University Hospital of North Durham as a trainee Biomedical Scientist. She completed professional qualifications in Medical Laboratory Sciences at the University of Northumbria and worked as a histologist/cytologist for 8 years.

Jackie began working for Durham University in 1990 as a senior research technician in the Biological Sciences Department Plant Cell Biology group. She completed an MSc by research in 1992, followed by a PhD in Plant Cell Biology in 1995. Jackie worked as a research assistant in Biological Sciences for five years becoming increasingly involved in teaching, Public Understanding of Science issues and Widening Access. She obtained BBSRC funding to develop the Botanic Gardens as an educational resource.

In 2001, Jackie joined Phase 1 Medicine as the Curriculum Evaluation and Widening Access Officer and progressed to Co-ordinator of Undergraduate Medicine and Taught Post Graduate Programmes in 2005.

Jackie's intersts include geneology, jigsaws, playing computer games and taking her dog for long walks.
