Criminal Records Checks (Disclosure)
Phase 1 Medicine at the University of Durham adheres to national guidelines which have been drawn up by the Council of Heads of Medical Schools
In April 2002, a new system was introduced which centralised all checks made by organisations on an applicant's criminal record. This process is known as disclosure. Disclosure is a service provided by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) (previously known as the Criminal Records Bureau or CRB), an executive agency of the Home Office
The Phase 1 Medicine programme requires all applicants to undergo an enhanced level disclosure with list checks (for work with vulnerable adults and children). Further instructions about how to apply and a DBS application form will be sent to students in the Spring prior to entry to the course.
