Entry Requirements

Taught Programmes

  • 2.1 honours degree or *international equivalent (for example GPA 3.2/4.0) in a relevant subject, such as medicine, health sciences, nursing or the social sciences
  • Professional qualification and/or three years relevant work-based experience. In this case, full details of recent employment history must be provided, along with a letter from an employer confirming your current duties and responsibilities
  • Satisfactory English language proficiency
  • Two acceptable references covering your ability to complete the programme. References required are academic references unless you have been outside of education for more than 3-years. In such cases employer references are acceptable. Please contact taughtpostgraduate.sfh@durham.ac.uk for reference proformas.
  • Good Personal Statement

You will also need a pass in Mathematics at GCSE Grade C level or equivalent (Students without a Grade C pass at GCSE or equivalent may be assessed for their competence in mathematics).

Applicants without a degree may be required to demonstrate sufficient academic capability to satisfactorily complete the degree. This may entail submission of a portfolio of work or a 2,000 word essay on a nominated topic.

Requests for APEL will be considered in accordance with University Regulations.

Note: The minimum entry requirements are not applicable for non-accredited CPD modules. If you wish to undertake accredited CPD however, the minimum entry requirements do apply.

* In line with UKBA requirements certificates issued by overseas institutions must be translated by a professional translation organisation on official letter headed paper and should include the following:

  • Details of the translator’s credentials

  • Confirmation that it is an accurate translation of the original document

  • The translator’s contact details

  • The translator’s original signature and the date of translation

  • The award date of the qualification.


Intercalation


Research Programmes

Approval to study is also dependent on:

    • Sound research proposal

    • Satisfactory interview

    • Availability of supervision capacity within the School

Financial Requirements

You must be able to meet the financial requirements of the programme you are interested in and be able to fund your living expences.

Personal Statement

Should contain information that will help stengthen you application including:

  • relevant experiance i.e. voluntary work
  • employment
  • professional qualifications
  • reasons why you wish to study the programme
