Q- Weight/R- Weight

This project is funded as part of an interdisciplinary School of Medicine and Health PhD at Durham University, the topic covered in this project is commercial weight loss products and services.

A three component study design will being employed. 

A survey will be conducted in partnership with the local media to determine the prevelance of commercial weight loss product and service usage in County Durham, Northumberland, Tees Valley and Tyne and Wear.

A Q-methodology study will assess the reasons why individuals purchase products and services outside of the primary care setting.

The survey and Q-methodology study will recruit individuals who have used a commercial weight loss product and/or service in the last twelve months, (and), live in County Durham, Northumberland, Tees Valley and Tyne and Wear, (and) are over 16 years old. 

The third method will consist of a systematic review to evaluate the effectiveness of commercial weight loss products and services.
