The School of Applied Social Sciences welcomes enquiries and applications from potential research students in any areas of the School’s expertise in the fields of sociology, social policy, criminology, social work, sport and community and youth work.  The School has five internationally-leading research groups: Crime, Violence and Abuse;  Policy, Professions and Communities; Innovative Research MethodologiesEconomy and Society; and Sport, Health and Policy.  Current major projects include studies on the use of DNA databases in forensic investigations, youth work, health inequalities and mental health, to name but a few of the current recent research projects conducted by staff in the School.  Current and past research students in the School have also conducted a range of studies relevant to developments in contemporary theory, policy and practice for their doctoral dissertations.
