Sailing at Durham is without a doubt a great way to spend your time. It is a brilliant way to get to know people from other colleges, other courses and other years and also break out of the famous "Durham Bubble!"
Anyone at the university is welcome to join the sailing team. We take part in team racing events all over the country, but also do organise club sailing for those who arenīt in the squad. We have regular socials which are always good fun! The sailing club also has a yachting team who compete at National events. For more information about any of these just have a look at the website or email one of the committee.
If you have done some sailing before and are interested in trying out for the team then we hold trials at the beginning of each year, so add that bag of sailing clothes into the car! You can come and meet us in person at the Fresherīs Sports Fair which is held at the beginning of first term.
You are bound to have a great time at Durham, whichever college you are in and whatever course you do! Sailing is something that will really enhance your time there and allow you to make some great friends.
If you have done some racing before, even if not team racing, then you might want to consider coming along to pre-season training.
This year it will be from Monday 24th-friday 28th September. There will be a small social on the Monday evening where you will be able to meet everyone. You donīt need to worry about finding somewhere to stay as someone in the sailing team will let you stay in their house.
It is a really nice way to begin your time at Durham - not only will you be able to get out on the water and learn a bit more about team racing but you will also get to meet some other sailors. If you would like to come, please contact our team captain Bex Dawkes. Her details are on the committee page.
