25/03/13: Durham University Sailing Club is now sponsored by SPERRY TOPSIDER, who will be providing kit for our BUCS teams.
DUSC was founded by Malcom Dodds in 1966, sailing on the river Wear in Durham City. Since then the club has come a long way, most recently moving to Derwent Reservoir in 2005, and buying a new fleet of 6 fireflies in 2011. In 2013, the club announced a sponsorship deal with Sperry Topsider to some of our team kit!
The main focus of the club is inter-university competition in yachting, team racing and match racing. There are competitive teams for all three disciplines which compete at events all over the country. Durham undoubtedly has the best university sailing in the north, and is regularly ranked in top 10 across the whole country on BUCS points. To date our best results are: yachting (4th), match racing (4th), team racing (6th), fleet racing (8th), overall bucs points in sailing (6th).
In addition to racing, the club also runs informal club days and taster sessions. These are mostly after exams in the summer, or on request during the Michelmas Term.
