Biography

Nikiforos (b. 1983) came to the United Kingdom to study music at a university level in 2003, followed by 12 years of musical studies in Greece (Music Theory, History of Music, etc.), including a degree in Classical Harmony and Piano studies to a level equivalent to Grade 8.

He graduated with a BA with Honours in Music from the University of Liverpool in 2006. His interest in composition and particularly in composition and orchestration for film music led him to Scotland where he completed his Postgraduate Diploma in Music (Composition) at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama, under the supervision of Mr. Rory Boyle, in 2007. He continued his studies to a Masters Level graduating with an MA in Composition from Durham University in 2010 under the supervision of Mr. Richard Rijnvos.

He is currently studying for a PhD in Composition at Durham University. His research deals with "the function of orchestration and the role of the orchestrator in film music from the Golden Age of Hollywood until the 1990's and the impact this had on today's film scoring."

Although Nikiforos' primary focus is on film music, he is also keenly interested in jazz harmony, jazz piano, compositional techniques and everything about orchestration.
