Miss Nilobon Hiranras
Nilobon Hiranras received her LLB and LLM (International Law) from Chulalongkorn University (Thailand), before becoming a Thai Barrister-at-law, followed by an LLM in Intellectual Property Law and Policy from the University of Washington, Seattle, USA. She works as a Research Judge of the Intellectual Property and International Trade Law Division in the Supreme Court of Thailand. She is currently a PhD candidate at Durham University School of Law.
Under the supervision of Dr Mike Adcock and Prof Deryck Beyleveld, her research focuses on the protection of Thai traditional knowledge/ agricultural products under Intellectual Property Law. The study will look at practical legal systems to protect, for example, medicinal plants, traditional agricultural crops, and folklore, by using “Thai Jasmine Rice” as a case study. In addition, International law and Thai law will be compared, as well as learning from experiences and prospective of other selected countries. Finally alternative means appropriate for Thailand and other developing countries in protecting, preserving, and promoting their national products will be analysed and recommendations made.
