Mr Mark Anderson
Biography
Mark Anderson received his BA in English from the University of Cambridge and a postgraduate teaching qualification from the same institution. An experienced teacher, in 2010 he returned to academic study and in 2011 was awarded an MA with Distinction in Poetry Studies and the Raman Selden Memorial Prize from the University of Durham.
Mark's doctoral research focuses on the activity and flux of transmutation as a vital agent in the work of the second generation Romantic poets, both shaped by and working to shape the varying forms of provisionality evident in their poetry. Under the supervision of Professor Michael O'Neill, his work examines the second generation Romantic poem as a framing of destabilised meaning and explores the manifestations of transmutation in relation to levels of consciousness, poetic influence and poetic form in Byron, Shelley and Keats, drawing on philosophical aesthetics and in particular the influence of Romantic-era developments in science and the legacy of pre-Romantic natural philosophy.
