Research Topic

Ben is currently working on the ceramics trade around the Indian Ocean in the late Islamic Period (13th-16th centuries AD), using the case site of Julfar and the assemblages from recent excavations there to look for patterns and developments in both the trade in ceramics and in commodities transported in them. Through this, he hopes to look at interaction between different areas, communities and people in the melting pot of the Indian Ocean.

He is also interested in Anglo-Saxon and Viking trading and the possible similarities and connections between these and his current work.
