Investing in Technology
The Research Commercialisation Team has drawn upon a broad range of industrial, investor and business contacts to take business ideas forward and acts as the key point of contact for businesses to engage with the World Class research outputs of the University of Durham.
We proactively protect IPR generated by research and currently have interests in over 70 discrete patent families. Healthcare and Life Sciences represent a significant proportion of our portfolio. Projects are taken forward as spin out companies, licensing deals or industrial collaborations. (More about Durham's Research Strengths)
Providing an important gateway into the research environment of the University, we welcome approaches from businesses and individuals that:
-
Are interested in licensing patented technology;
-
Are interested in forging research links in technological areas;
- Are interested in investing in spin-off or start-up companies.
Licensing Opportunities
The University has multiple technologies available for licensing to commercial partners. To view current available technologies please visit Durham's 'Licensing Opportunities' page.
Spinout Companies
Durham University has a proactive approach to the creation of spinout companies as vehicles to commercialise research innovation. These vehicles have benefitted from seed funds and angel investment.
For examples from the current spinout company portfolio please visit our ‘Durham Spinouts’ page.
If you are interested in learning more about these companies or wish to invest in upcoming opportunities, please contact Dr Tim Hammond at (technology.transfer@dur.ac.uk) or telephone 0191 334 3189.
