BEFORE ACCEPTING A PROPERTY:

Seek advice from the Accommodation Office if you have a query regarding your tenancy agreement.

Ensure that the landlord shows you a current gas certificate for the property.

Ensure the landlord gives you a written receipt for any monies paid, indicating what period the rent covers.

Reach an agreement in writing with the landlord over any work to be carried out on the house over the summer vacation.

Remember to pay your half rent.

Ensure that all members of your group have the landlord's telephone number and also each others home telephone numbers.

Make arrangements for signing on for gas, electricity and telephone.

Make clear arrangements with the landlord regarding collection of keys and payment of summer rent.

Inform everybody of your new address including the University, your insurance company and your bank.

Full time students are exempt from Council Tax.

Stockton Borough Council will require proof that the property is occupied solely by full time students.

Please contact the SPA Office (AS5) regarding arrangements for Council Tax exemption certificates.

It is strongly recommended that all personal blongings are fully insured and that valuables are not left in the house during vacations.

Student lettings are often a target for break-ins, especially during the vacation periods when properties are left empty for several weeks.
