Accommodation

Conference delegates will be housed in University accommodation at Van Mildert College. Van Mildert is one of the largest of the 16 Durham colleges and is set in spacious grounds just a few minutes walk from the Geography Department. Further information about the college can be found at http://www.dur.ac.uk/van-mildert.college/.

Accommodation will be priced as follows:

  • Single occupancy, with en-suite £35.00
  • Single occupancy, shared bathroom £25.00

The above costs include breakfast.

The first 20 people to register will receive a free nights accommodation.

Travelling to Durham

By road

Durham city centre is only two miles from the A1(M). Leave the motorway at junction 62 on the A690 (Durham - Sunderland road) and follow signs to Durham City Centre. See http://www.dur.ac.uk/map/durham for the location of the Geography Department and the accommodation at Van Mildert College. The postcode for the department is DH1 3LE (although no parking is available on site) and DH1 3LH for the college.

Durham is served by several express coach services. The city bus station is 1.8 km from the department. Frequent local busses stop close to the department on Church Street and at Hollingside Lane for Van Mildert.

By rail

Durham is on the East Coast mainline, with 60 daily intercity trains, including 14 from London. The National Express high speed service takes under 3 hours from London King's Cross on the main East Coast line. The city bus station is a short walk from the train station; the department is 2.1 km from the train station.

By air

Durham is 30 minutes drive from Newcastle Airport and about 40 minutes from Durham Tees Valley airport. Both have regular domestic and international flights. Durham is linked to Newcastle Airport by rail and metro. Travellers into Durham Tees Valley can take advantage of the free Sky Express bus service that links the airport to Darlington railway station, with regular connections to Durham.
