Biography
My area of interest is early intervention in children, young people and families in terms of health and wellbeing. Specifically, I am interested in issues relating to mental ill health and overweight/obesity in both children and parents.
My research has two aspects: early precursors of mental ill health and overweight/obesity in the parent child relationship; and targeting mental illness and obesity through early, upstream, brief, successful, cost-effective interventions in families. With regards to early precursors in the parent-child relationship I am interested in attachment and mind-mindedness, specifically parents' non-attuned comments to children in a food context and in response to emotions. With regards to upstream interventions I am interested in the effectiveness of Behavioural Activation as a treatment for overwight/obesity and mental ill health.
