Department of Psychology

Career Options and Employability

Our department comprises members of academic staff who use cutting edge techniques in order to become world leaders in their research field. The experience gained with us will therefore enable you to enter the workplace with knowledge and hands on experience of how psychological issues are investigated and how this knowledge is applied to solve problems in the world.

“My MSc training allowed me to go beyond theory taught by experts in their field, to utilise skills and knowledge in an applied way. Using the fantastic facilities available in the department has been truly inspirational and directly led to my decision to carry out a Ph.D to continue my intellectual development. ”

Helen Knight, MSc Cognitive Neuroscience, 2010

Career development opportunities

The Careers, Employability and Enterprise Centre works closely with the Psychology Department. Careers Centre staff deliver presentations on relevant topics and many master's students attend our annual 'Making the Most of your Masters' conference where they develop an awareness of the crucial employability skills in employer lead sessions. PhD students also have access to a specialist Careers Consultant who can help them with any career related issues

Work experience opportunities

The MSc in Cognitive neuroscience offers two placement opportunities one in a research environment (University of Verona) and one in an industrial setting (Cambridge Research Systems who design and manufacture psychological experimental equipment).
