Enabling the twinning of coastal and inland villages through the provision of information and communication technology

In the years 2009, 2010 and 2011, a developing focus of Project Sri Lanka village adoption is to promote electronic communications and information technology. In each of these years, two villages will be provided with new community buildings - one inland settlement and one coastal one.
In addition to the multi-purpose building, each community will be provided with a computer with internet facility and other appropriate equipment for communications beyond the village.
Local residents will be trained in the use of such facilities by Sarvodaya personnel and by visiting Durham University students and academic staff, supported by Sri Lankan university students and staff. They will be encouraged to engage in ‘twinning' communications with the other villages being supported in this community e-learning initiative.
