What are we doing?

- Adopting communities for support and assistance
- Building pre-schools/community centres in villages on the tsunami affected south coast of the island
- Building multi-purpose community centres in inland villages
- Enabling the twinning of coastal and inland villages through the provision of information and communication technology
- Supporting the development of schools in the Rotary Sri Lanka Schools Awakening Project
- Providing boats and other equipment for revitalising businesses
- Supporting the activities of a Rotary Community Corps
- Enabling regular summer placements for students to live and work in our adopted communities and in Rotary Sri Lanka schools
- Developing art, music, sport and cultural activities with Sri Lankan students
- Enabling academic exchanges between Durham and Sri Lankan universities to develop research and community outreach activities
- Through such visits, developing the concept of a ‘university village'
- Supporting teaching visits by Durham staff to our Sri Lankan university partners
- Helping with curriculum development at university and school levels
- Providing fees and assistance for Sri Lankan students to undertake post-graduate education and training at Durham
- Providing Fellowships for Sri Lankan scholars
- Conducting international workshops in Sri Lanka
- Facilitating the establishment and activities of a Sri Lanka Society at Durham University
- Developing a humanitarian model for the internationalisation of universities
