Community Volunteers

(11 February 2010)

In January 2010, 4 volunteers from North Northumberland who are keen supporters of Project Sri Lanka spent several weeks in some of Sri Lankan communities.

Mrs Sandra Evans, former Mayoress of Berwick-upon-Tweed lived in Matara town and helped with teaching in our village schools in Rassandeniya, Gandarawatte and Hiththatiya. Mrs Alison Brown and Mr Michael Brown from Berwick-upon-Tweed taught in theĀ  Rotary supported school of Dharmarama in the town of Ahangama. Mr Scott Weightman, also of Berwick-upon-Tweed spend a month teaching English, and engaging in music and other activities in both the Sangaratte School in Ahangama and the Sri Samangala school in Weligama.

A very good and successful time was had by all and we are deeply grateful to these volunteers for theirĀ  support and wonderful contributions. Their own accounts of their activities will be found on the appropriate village pages which are located under 'Student Involvement' on the website.
