Castlerigg Stone Circle, Cumbria

3D images and interactive 3D animations produced by processing laser scanned data.

Project leader: Dr Margarita Díaz-Andreu (Dept of Archaeology, University of Durham).
Project research assistants: Kate Sharpe, Andrew Blanshard, Michael Rainsbury (Dept of Archaeology, University of Durham).

Data processing by Michael Rainsbury with the assistance of Andrew Blanshard, Dr Richard Hobbs and Dr Immo Trinks (Dept of Earth Sciences and e-Science Research Institute), Dr Nick Rosser (Dept of Geography), University of Durham.

Laser scanning and pre-processing of data: Gavin Ellis, Pete Longhurst, Rich Gillibrand, supervised by Dr Alan Chalmers (Dept of Computer Science, University of Bristol).

The data was processed using a methodology developed by Hobbs and Trinks. 3D animations are adapted from work by Trinks. The images here are screen captures. Copies of the data sets have been  deposited with the Archaeological Data Service in York.

Stones are numbered following the convention used by the Sites and Monuments Record, starting with the western entrance stone and moving in a clockwise direction
