How to apply
Choosing a College
Durham is a collegiate university, so as well as applying to a department we encourage you to nominate a preferred college in your application. The college you choose will have no effect upon whether you receive an academic offer from the University. This decision is made by the academic department to which you apply.
Each college has a different UCAS code. To nominate a preferred college, insert the relevant UCAS code (below) in the Campus Code column in your UCAS application. If the academic department to which you apply decides to make you an offer, your application will be forwarded to the college of your choice. If your preferred college cannot allocate you a place, your application will be passed to an alternative college; find out more about college allocations. Please note: If your course is based in Durham, you will be a member of a Durham-based college. If your course is based at Queen's Campus, you will be a member of a Queen's-based college.
We strongly encourage applicants to state a preference. If you prefer not to select a college then this is known as making an 'open' application. To make an open application, enter Campus Code 0 for Durham City courses or Campus Code S for Queen's Campus courses. If you make an open application, we will select a college for you on your behalf.
