Welfare and support
Whether you're based in Durham City or at Queen's Campus, you'll find a wide support network available to you while studying at the University.
Healthcare
University students are usually registered with either the Claypath and University Medical Group (0191 386 5081) in Durham, or the Alma Street Medical Centre (01642 607248) in Stockton, although you may of course register with another GP of your choice.
Students with disabilities
Our Service for Students with Disabilities can advise you and organise special academic facilities in Durham or Stockton if you have a disability and need some help. They will try to provide whatever support is necessary to enable you to study effectively and make full use of your opportunities at University, including support through the application and interview procedure, if required.
Counselling
If you have any problems while you are with us, the University Counselling Service offers a quiet and confidential place with trained counsellors to help you work through your difficulties.
Nursery facilities
Our University Nursery in Durham caters for children from two months to school age. It is open from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday throughout the year, and as a student of the University you will be eligible for preferential rates.
Queen's Campus, Stockton has an agreement with the play scheme organisation SMASH to pay for a number of places for children between the ages of 5 and 14 during the half term holidays. Other sources of advice
The Students' Union has a dedicated advice centre that offers free advice on finance and student funding, academic, personal and employment issues, and which is a useful initial contact for legal advice. DSU also has an education and welfare officer, and your college will always be on hand to offer support and advice.

College support
Your college will also offer a strong, supportive environment, with a comprehensive support system of tutors and welfare officers enabling you to make the most of your time as a student.
