Theatre

"All the world's a stage" and nowhere is this more evident than at Durham University.
With over 60 student theatrical productions a year there is always something to see, with plenty of opportunities to tread the boards, get invloved behind the scenes, or simply enjoy the show.

Durham's vibrant performing arts scene offers something to satisfy all theatrical tastes and passions: From outdoor productions in college grounds, to large-scale musicals in the Gala Theatre, Durham, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy music, dance, comedy and drama.
You can get involved in theatre through your college or by joining one of over 20 theatre companies. 'Durham Student Theatre' (DST) is the umbrella organisation for theatre at the University and is based in our own 220 seat Assembly Rooms Theatre, in the heart of the city.
'Infinity Musical Theatre' (IMT) and 'Awesome College Theatre' (ACT), are based at Queen's Campus, and work closely with professional arts venue ARC Stockton.

DST has over 700 active members and offers fantastic opportunities to write, perform and produce high quality shows. DST runs regular trips to professional productions and hires working theatre practitioners to run student workshops, as well as working with local schools and community groups.
DST productions travel to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where they regularly earn rave reviews. Castle Theatre Company make an annual tour of the USA, performing classic Shakepseare and this year Durham Drama Festival will host student productions from other Universitys.
IMT and ACT give you the opportunity to get involved in performances at ARC, whether you've acted before or not, or whether you would prefer to get involved with the technical side of things. IMT were finalists in the Durham Student Union annual awards for Best New Society in Durham, as voted for by students.
