St Cuthbert's Society is a college of Durham University. We were established in 1888 and have two sites: Bailey with traditional buildings and fully catered facilities and Parson’s Field with more modern buildings with standard and en-suite self-catered facilities. We are a scholarly community with a tradition of having a social conscience and a focus upon inclusion. As a scholarly community we anticipate that only prospective students who intend working hard at their academic studies will apply to us. We want, and expect, the best from and for, our students.

Postgraduate Committee
All postgraduates are a member of the Postgraduate Committee (PGC) and also a member of the Junior Common Room (JCR). The PGC provides a forum to meet and talk about their research; this is more commonly referred to as the Research Forums. The JCR provides the clubs and societies in which all postgraduates are encouraged to take part.
Societies, sports and outreach
Postgraduates can join any of our clubs and societies. These include: Arts Society, Badminton Club, Basketball, Big Band (Music), Boat Club, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Chess, Choir, Christian Union, Cricket, Darts, Drama Society, Football, Hockey, Lacrosse, Netball, Orchestra, Photography, Pool Club, Rugby, Squash, Table Tennis and Tennis Club.
All postgraduates are members of the Junior Common Room. We encourage our postgraduates to develop new clubs and societies if their interests are not already represented.
Support
Student support, in other words, anything which is or may affect your academic studies and progress, is managed by the Vice Principal/Senior Tutor. She is supported in this role by an Assistant Senior Tutor and peer support is available through the JCR Welfare Service.
