Josephine Butler College, named after a pioneer in women's health and education, is a young and friendly college offering modern facilities to those studying in this historic city. We provide a collegiate home to a diverse community of postgraduates and undergraduates from around 50 different countries and we welcome those of all faiths, or none.

Our taught and research postgraduates from all of the University's Faculties meet together in Josephine Butler College to discuss issues such as environmental change at the College's Scholars' Suppers and hear public lectures on social, health and education themes in the Josephine Butler Lecture Series. They relish donning their gowns for the College's formal dining and two College Balls. The MCR (Middle Common Room) are the organising and representative body for postgraduates in college. They run regular events such as trips around the region (e.g. Edinburgh), cultural excursions (e.g. Theatre) and give our postgraduates many opportunities to socialise together in the College. Together with our SCR (Senior Common Room) our postgraduates enjoy the delights of our book club, wine-tasting and fine dining.

Additional college fees

  • £42 MCR levy which includes membership of the JCR and entitlement to participation in clubs, societies and sports.
