What if I don’t get into the college of my choice?
After your academic department has made a decision on whether we can make you an offer, your application will be forwarded to the college of your choice. If your first choice college cannot make an offer your application will be passed to an alternative college, or in the case of an open application we will allocate a college for you.
After you have accepted your offer to study at Durham, you apply for college membership. You can indicate a preferred college, or leave the college choice open. If your first choice college is not able to offer you membership, your application will be sent to another college, or if you don't specify a college, a college will be chosen for you.
Since all full-time students are members of a college, if you don't complete the Postgraduate College Membership & Accommodation Form, we will allocate you to a college. You may not be able to transfer to another college after you have been allocated a college, so we recommend you complete the Postgraduate College Membership & Accommodation Form as soon as possible.
