Residence Agreement
When you take up college or college managed accommodation, you will be required to sign the Residence Agreement, which is legally binding. This says that you will live in the residence for the full academic session (usually 50 weeks for Masters or PhD students, 40 weeks for PGCE students).
If you will be based at a Queen's Campus College (Stephenson or John Snow Colleges), please note that you MUST NOT sign one of the below agreements as they do not apply to the accommodation offered at Queen's Campus. If you receive an accommodation offer from one of the Queen's Campus Colleges, they will direct you to the relevant contract for that accommodation. Please contact colleges.postgrad@durham.ac.uk if you have any queries about residence agreements.
For Durham based college accommodation, the Residence Agreements for 2012-2013 are attached below. You need to read the relevant Residence Agreement and make sure you understand it. For the majority of students, residence dates are 26th September 2012 - 11th September 2013. Students studying for some programmes arrive in Durham earlier, so have different residence dates. Check here to find out more about residence dates.
Residence Fees: The Residence Agreement sets out the fees payable and how you should pay them. Please note that insurance for your personal possessions is not included in the Residence Charge.
Signing the Residence Agreement: You will be sent notification informing you when you need to sign the Residence Agreement to say that you agree to the terms and conditions in the agreement. By signing this document you will be committing yourself to a legal document and to the terms of the Residence Agreement. Before signing this document, you should read the terms of the Residence Agreement carefully to ensure that it contains everything you want and nothing you are not prepared to agree to.
Applicants for family accommodation at Keenan House should ensure that they have read the 2012-13 Keenan House Code of Conduct before they sign the Licence Agreement. This document can be found below and forms part of the accommodation contract.
Please note, St Chad's College and St John's College are independent colleges and therefore operate a slightly different residence agreement. If you are offered accommodation at St Chad's College or St John's College, you will be contacted with a separate license agreement by that College. Click here for room rates and occupancy dates at St Chad's.
