I am a PhD student (started October 2009), studying on the newly formed Fusion Doctoral Training Network (FTDN) run from York and funded by EPSRC/CCFE.  Under the supervision of Richard Myers, Ray Sharples (based at Durham), and Graham Naylor (based at Culham) I am working on the Mega Amp Spherical Tokamak (MAST), a Nuclear Fusion research experiment. Initially starting at York for six months I will then be at Culham for three years.

Coming from a computational physics background I will apply a technology known as FPGAs (essentially programmable hardware) to provide real-time interfaces from Tokamak diagnostic instruments to control and analysis hardware/software.
