Biography

Responsibilities within department

I am head of the Centre for Advanced Instrumentation. Next year (Sept. 2012 onwards) I will be director of Education. I currently Chair the Teaching Review Committee and the Technical & IT Review Committee.

Teaching activity

I currently am the "opening act" for the freshers (Introductory Lectures on Foundations of Physics) and I run two L4 projects.

Research Interests

My research group designs and constructs instrumentation for large telescopes which the UK is involved with around the World. My general interests are in Optics and Photonics for a variety of applications including astronomy and bio-imaging. More specifically I work on adaptive optics, biophotonics, and vision science.
