Entry Requirements

For entry to the PhD you will be required to have a First Class honours degree, or at least a 2:1 Integrated Master’s degree or a Master's degree in an appropriate subject, from a recognised university.

Applicants for the MSc by Research will require a good first degree in a relevant discipline. Please contact the Postgraduate Administrator for further details.

Language Requirements

The University's minimal language requirements for postgraduate studies in the Department of Physics, for students whose first language is not English are: an overall band score of 6.5 in the IELTS test (with no element below 6.0) or 92 in the TOEFL iBT (Internet Based Test) (with no element below 23).

In all cases the relevant certificate should have been issued within two years of the programme start date. Students taking the Durham University English Language Centre pre-sessional course will be required to achieve a grade of B or above.
